Accreditation

In 1941, the Sacred Congregation of Seminaries and Universities of the Apostolic See designated the Dominican House of Studies as an ecclesiastical faculty of theology with the authorization to confer ecclesiastical degrees.

In 1941, the Sacred Congregation of Seminaries and Universities of the Apostolic See designated the Dominican House of Studies as an ecclesiastical faculty of theology with the authorization to confer ecclesiastical degrees. Presently operating under the provisions of the Apostolic Constitution Veritatis Gaudium (2018), the Pontifical Faculty of Theology of the Immaculate Conception at the Dominican House of Studies is fully accredited as an institute of higher education by the Catholic Church through the Congregation for Catholic Education and is authorized to grant the degrees Baccalaureate of Sacred Theology (S.T.B.), Licentiate in Sacred Theology (S.T.L.), and Doctorate of Sacred Theology (S.T.D.).

In 1976, the House of Studies received civil accreditation from the Association of Theological Schools and the Middle States Commission on Higher Education in order to grant the civil degree of Master of Divinity (M.Div.). This accreditation was expanded in 1993 to include granting the civil degree of Master of Arts (M.A.).

The Dominican House of Studies is authorized by the U.S. Department of Education under the Higher Education Act of 1965 to participate in Title IV Programs for federal financial aid (OPE ID available).


Effective February 22, 2013, the Commission on Accrediting of the Association of Theological Schools (ATS) has extended the term of accreditation for the Dominican House of Studies through the spring 2022 semester.

The Dominican House of Studies is an accredited institution and a member of the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) www.msche.org. The accreditation status of the Dominican House of Studies is Accreditation Reaffirmed. The Commission’s most recent action on the institution’s accreditation status on November 15, 2012, was to reaffirm accreditation.
