Since 1996, Dr. LaNave has served the Pontifical Faculty of the Immaculate Conception as managing editor of The Thomist, the quarterly journal of philosophy and theology published by the Dominican Fathers. He has been a full-time member of the Pontifical Faculty since 2006, with special expertise in medieval theology and in fundamental theology.  Among other courses, he regularly teaches the history of Thomism in three courses, "From Condemnations to Trent," "The Commentatorial Tradition" (in development), and "Magisterium and Philosophy."  He is the author of Through Holiness to Wisdom: The Nature of Theology according to St. Bonaventure (Rome: Istituto storico dei cappuccini, 2005), and several recent scholarly articles: “God, Creation, and the Possibility of Philosophical Wisdom: Perspectives from Bonaventure and Aquinas” (Theological Studies), “Knowing God through and in All Things: A Proposal for Reading Bonaventure’s Itinerarium mentis in Deum” (Franciscan Studies), "Bonaventure’s Arguments for the Existence of God and an ‘Independent’ De Deo uno” and “Why Holiness Is Necessary for Theology” (both in The Thomist). He has also contributed to collections of essays: “Bonaventure on the Spiritual Senses,” in The Perception of God: The Spiritual Senses in the Christian Tradition (Cambridge Univ. Press, forthcoming) and “Bonaventure’s Theological Method,” in A Companion to Bonaventure (Brill, forthcoming). He is working on a book on a general theory of the connection between theology and holiness.
